A Thing Alive

I feel the dark as a thing alive
Pulling and stalking my fragile
Soul from the inside out and
Oh, how simple it would be to
Step softly into that familiar
Embrace, wrapped in arms
Of icy comfort and solitude
To settle easily into that old
Routine of sickness and despair.

But I’ve come too far into the light
And seen the truth with wide open
Eyes and flown on the winds of the
World of dreams and I must not
Fall prey to the temptations and
Promises of the black of the void.

So I’ll struggle along in rock solid
Determination, resigned to the truth
That the dark is alive and that it will
Never let me go willingly and with
Hope and prayers of perseverance,
Will I stand fast against the saccharine
Lure of that insistent voice of unreason.
